Watch Out For New Email Virus Circulating

Beware of emails with a subject line stating: “Banking Security Update” as they may contain a new type of virus that automatically is downloaded on your computer without having to open an attachment.

Typically, most viruses are usually contained in an attached office document or PDF file that a user has to open. This virus will appear without warning. The only message a user will get is the word “loading” appearing on their screen.

The emails, themselves, are not infected so web-security defense packages are not set off.

These emails are being called “drive-by emails” and security experts, Eleven Research Team, are saying the emails are “particularly dangerous”. The term “drive-by” was derived from infected internet sites downloading viruses to the PC from the browser.

“This sort of span also affects cautious users which would never open an unknown attachment or link,” say security experts from Eleven Research Team.

The security experts continue by saying, “This drive by span automatically downloads malware when the email is opened in the email client.”

These emails are HTML emails that automatically download malware when the emails are open.

The security company recommends updating all of your email settings to maximum setting and keeping your browser up to date against malicious software.
